Adoption in British Columbia is overseen by the Provincial Government.
In order to adopt a child you must first register with a BC licenced adoption agency. At Sunrise we will provide you with the education program and adoption preparation to meet government requirements and to help you understand the complicated issues involved in adoption. Our education program is available entirely on-line and so is accessible from anywhere in the world.
About three quarters of the adoptions we facilitate are of children from other countries and about one quarter are children born in Canada.
After completing the adoption preparation program, parents choose which country they would like to adopt from. This can be a difficult and frustrating process as foreign countries open, slow down, suspend or even close adoptions.
