Asrai & Kyle

OUR PROMISE TO YOU:

We promise to support you in the way that is best for you. If you choose us to parent your child, we promise to give them our hearts.

We will ensure they have opportunities for education, exploration, wonder, and mistakes. We'll equip them with skills for happiness, connection, self-discipline and success; teach them to balance joy, hard work, and self-care. We'll always include them in family decisions, and make choices with their best outcomes in mind. We'll surround them with loving people, diverse experiences, and meaningful relationships. We'll protect them from the world and their own decisions when necessary, but always explain our reasoning. We'll create a safe space for difficult conversations, and remember that we also have to learn from them. We'll strive to be joyful, loving, and present, remembering that every moment shapes our lifelong connection. We promise they will know you, and your love for them - you will always be an important and valued part of our lives.

ABOUT US:

We work in software and founded and sold a successful company together. Kyle has a degree in Computer Science; Asrai has degrees in Archaeology, Community Planning, and Computer Science. Married 11 years, together 16, we've lived an incredible life so far.

We've hoped to start a family for years. We cherish time with our nieces and friends' children who call us auntie and uncle. Experiencing life with children is fulfilling for us. We love to share, connect, learn, and create experiences for those we care about. We have the time, space, and finances to provide many opportunities. As parents, we want to help a child discover their passions and talents, then help them translate that into lifetime success, while supporting them in challenges and side quests along the way.

The next era of our lives will prioritize family. We enjoy small-town weekends, gardening, outdoors, music, stargazing, boardgames, and science. Video game nights with the extended family where we can snuggle and laugh together are the best. We travel to experience world cultures, prioritize fitness and cooking together, and read widely—from technical articles to world events to mysteries.

Above all, we love being together—working, living, traveling, and socializing. We'd love to parent together.

ABOUT OUR FAMILY:

Our immediate and extended family are overjoyed about our hopes for adoption.

Our parents are still active and they travel, garden, and enjoy the outdoors. We're especially close to Kyle's brother, sister-in-law, and two nieces who live just a 7-minute walk away. Poet, our 15-year-old Wirehaired Dachshund accompanies us almost everywhere; she is well-mannered and outstanding with children. Asrai's family lives in Eastern Canada and they visit us multiple times a year. Both sides of our families include adoption stories and have a deep appreciation for the special considerations that arise in adoptive families.

We love being West Coast Canadians. Our seasonal activities vary depending on life stages, but we always prioritize time to laugh, share meals, and enjoy outdoor adventures. Holidays are special: we decorate extravagantly, play games, hold costume competitions, and host friends. We spend fall storm-watching and surfing in Tofino, summers hiking and relaxing on beaches, and winters skiing. Rainy days in cities mean visits to art galleries, aquariums, and museums. We are constantly collecting a list of experiences for when we have a little one to share them with, from petting zoos to Science World and family-friendly travel destinations.

OUR HOME & COMMUNITY:

We live in a safe, welcoming community on Vancouver Island where Kyle grew up. His family connections mean we’ve had a lot of community support. Our beautiful house backs onto gardens and trails. Locally-farmed food, abundant children's activities, and community events are readily available.

Asrai grew up in South Burnaby experiencing lots of different cultures and traditions and our software careers have built us a valued network of friends and colleagues with varied backgrounds. We visit Vancouver regularly to maintain our connection to them and to enrich our lives with diverse experiences.

OPENNESS:

As prospective adoptive parents, we feel adoption is a privilege. It means understanding your needs and helping create the best outcomes for the child you might allow us the honor to parent. Our hope is to work with you to meet your desired level of openness.

We believe openness can have a significant positive impact on a child; that the more people who love this child deeply, the better. We want them to be able to know about and explore everything they are connected to. But we also understand that openness can create challenging situations that some birth parents will choose to manage carefully. We are ready and open to different situations—from creating space in our lives for birth parents and their families to sharing photos a few times a year. If you choose us as adoptive parents, we will always work with you to keep your child's best interests at heart.
