Amanda & Wil
OUR PROMISE TO YOU:
Welcome to our profile! Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us better.
We have had numerous conversations throughout the years of how we would like to raise our (and your) child.
We will endeavor to create a safe space filled with unconditional love.
We will nurture an environment of kindness, caring and empathy.
We will communicate openly and without judgment.
We will foster learning and curiosity.
We will provide freedom and support to focus on their interests and hobbies.
We are looking forward to integrating our child into our cultures and integrating ourselves into our child’s culture.
We will have fun! We love to laugh in our household.
We view adoption as a beautiful way to become a family. We know that the love in raising an adopted child will transcend biology. We have encountered many adversities in life that have taught us resilience and have helped to prepare us to be the best parents we can be to our future child.
ABOUT US:
Wil has a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Sciences and Amanda has a Master’s Degree in Political Science. Wil is a Sr Software Engineer for a multinational investment bank, while Amanda is a Product and Business Development Manager for a Canadian retail grocer (so our child will always be well fed)! We became friends in high school, have been together for 14 years and married for 10 years. We have longed to be parents for quite some time, but due to a complex infertility diagnosis (coupled with multiple failed treatments), we have been unsuccessful. We have always known that we wanted to adopt, and wanted to ensure that we were 100% ready to pursue this path before embarking on it. We are fortunate to have many interests and hobbies. We both love to travel – we have been to 25 countries together (and close to 50 countries each)! We can’t wait to bring a little one on our adventures, teaching them about different cultures and traditions around the world, helping to broaden their perspective. We are both active and love the outdoors. We both love to bike, hike, paddle board and camp. Wil enjoys working on bikes and fixing things, while Amanda enjoys reading autobiographies and cooking food from different cuisines. We love taking our 8 year old dog Lola to the dog park and to hang out with her friends. Lola is incredibly gentle and will make for a protective big sister.
ABOUT OUR FAMILY:
Family is of paramount importance to both of us.
Wil was born in El Salvador and immigrated to Vancouver at the age of 3. He is from a large, blended family that lives close-by – Mom, Dad, an older half-sister, an older brother and sister and two younger foster sisters. Having grown up in a blended family, Wil is aware, has experience and is equipped to deal with the challenges that may arise with creating our own blended family.
Amanda was born and raised in Toronto to parents who immigrated to Canada in the 1970s from Guyana, a small Caribbean country. She is from a smaller immediate family – Mom, Dad and older sister but has a large extended (and extremely diverse) family of aunts, uncles and cousins of whom she is close with. We travel back to Toronto 2-3 times a year, and Amanda’s parents visit 2-3 times a year, so our child will grow up close to both sets of grandparents.
We have 4 nieces and 2 nephews who we adore and love to spoil. We have 3 godchildren and a close circle of lifelong friends. Our families and friends are eagerly awaiting our child (especially our nieces and nephews, who can’t wait for a new playmate) and we have no doubt that our future child will be showered with all the love and care in the world from those near and dear to us.
OUR HOME & COMMUNITY:
We live in a spacious townhouse in the Lower Mainland in an incredibly family friendly area, filled with parks, playgrounds and sport fields. We have a culturally diverse group of friends close by, most of whom have babies and toddlers, who will make great future friends to our child. Most of our inner circle is aware of the challenges that we’ve had on the journey to parenthood and have been supportive of this path. We both recognize the importance of having a solid community behind us and maintaining strong, supportive connections in our lives.
OPENNESS:
We can’t begin to understand the circumstances that led you to be faced with such a monumental decision to place your child for adoption. We have a great deal of compassion and respect for you and understand that you are now and forever an integral piece of our child’s life. We will strive to be as open as possible with our child about their origin story from the time they enter our (and their future) home. We are open to contact via e-mail and a few visits throughout the year, and are happy to send along pictures, drawings and letters. We are open to learning about the type of openness contact you would like, and will welcome the opportunity to discuss further.
