Alyssa & Nicole

OUR PROMISE TO YOU:

Above all else, we promise to parent with unconditional love, and to provide a safe, supportive, and stable home for our child.

Our goal is to build a childhood filled with play, laughter, fun, warmth, joy, and happy memories. We promise to celebrate with them when they succeed, comfort them when they are sad, listen to them when they are scared, and always be there for them when they make mistakes no matter what.

We promise to give every opportunity for education, exploring their interests, and discovering their passions. We will nurture their sense of self worth and belonging, so that they have confidence in themselves and their abilities.

You will be an important part of the child’s story, and we promise to always speak about you with respect. Being the reason we become parents is not something we will ever take for granted.

ABOUT US:

We met online in 2019 while living in different provinces. Nicole had finished medical school and just started her pediatric training, and Alyssa was in vet school. It was a busy and stressful time of our lives, but we leaned on each other throughout those years and built the foundation of a strong life-long relationship. Once we were both finished our medical training, we moved to a rural city in British Columbia. We are now well established in our careers with Nicole as a pediatrician caring for children and teens in our community, and Alyssa as a vet for creatures both big and small. In Spring 2024 we had our dream mountain wedding surrounded by family and friends.

Our hobbies and interests are endless, and we are always learning and trying new things both as individuals and as a couple. At her core, Nicole has a more inquisitive and thoughtful personality and is the family problem solver. She enjoys playing guitar, video games, and amateur woodworking. Alyssa is more sporty and outgoing, and is always planning the next adventure. In her down time she enjoys training the dogs, watching Marvel movies, and listening to country music.

Together, we are passionate about everything outdoors. We share a love for camping, canoeing, hiking, biking, and skiing. And although we are truly blessed to live where we do, we also enjoy traveling to experience new landscapes, food, and cultures.

We cannot wait to share our passions with a child, as well as discover what theirs might be.

ABOUT OUR FAMILY:

We have two wonderful dogs - Takoda, the smart one, and Mayuk, the cuddly one. We also have a senior cat, Saroo, who Alyssa rescued while she was in vet school.

Alyssa’s parents, sisters, and extended family all live a few hours’ drive away. Nicole’s parents and step-siblings live in Ontario. We have plenty of visits with both sides of the family, both hosting at our home and going to them. Everyone is very excited to welcome their first grand-baby and niece/nephew into the family!

We have both enjoyed getting to know more about our own heritage. Nicole’s family is French Canadian and she has spent time exploring the islands where her family originated. Alyssa is of mixed European and Indigenous heritage, and in recent years has become acquainted with her band. We look forward to being able to explore our child’s culture alongside them.

OUR HOME & COMMUNITY:

Our home is on a 4 acre property backing onto a beautiful forest that we love to explore. In the near future we plan to acquire a few farm animals and start a garden!

We live a 5 minute drive from town where there are excellent schools, parks, and recreation centres. We are members of the local Anglican church, which values inclusivity and giving back to the community.

We are fortunate to have good friends nearby who are also growing their young families. On weekends, we can be found hosting BBQs, playing board games, or going on outdoor adventures.

OPENNESS:

For us, openness is a chance for our child to understand and embrace all parts of what makes them the wonderful and unique person they are. Their adoption story is a big part of that. If our child comes from a different ethnicity or culture than our own, we are committed to learning as a family and incorporating cultural practices into our lives.

Adoption will always be a topic that is a welcome conversation; we want our child to be able to ask questions, and to be able to answer those questions to the best of our ability. We know that each birth family’s wishes for openness may vary and may evolve over time and we will figure that out together.
