ABOUT US:
Stephen is a Director of Finance and HR, with education in both fields. Devon, a retired ballet dancer, is now a group fitness instructor teaching Barre workouts, with a strong foundation in dance and group fitness training. We believe that our unique backgrounds, along with our shared love of adventure and family, will create a nurturing and enriching environment for our child.
Our love story began when Devon moved to Vancouver and Stephen was coaching her younger brother’s hockey team. From the start, our relationship has been built on shared passions, laughter, and unwavering support for each other. We’ve been together for 17 years and married for nearly 9 of those. After spending eight years trying to grow our family through IUIs, IVF, surgeries, and navigating the heartbreak of loss, we feel so grateful and ready to welcome a baby into our lives.
Adoption, for us, is a beautiful and transformative way to grow our family. It represents hope, love, and a future full of joy. We know our child will be special in their own right and will be surrounded by love—from all of our families, our friends, and the experiences we've shared. Every step of this journey has been rewarding, and we are beyond excited to welcome a child into our home, where they will experience a world of discovery, love, and countless cherished memories.
ABOUT OUR FAMILY:
Family is at the heart of everything we do. We both have two siblings and are proud to be the aunt and uncle to eight nieces and nephews. They are excited to welcome a new cousin and can’t wait to shower them with love, laughter, and playtime! With the support of our families, we know our baby will grow up surrounded by encouragement and care. We look forward to celebrating traditions, creating new ones, and sharing our values of kindness, respect, and curiosity.
On weekends, we enjoy exploring hiking trails with our black lab, Jackson. At 2.5 years old, Jackson is full of personality and loves swimming in creeks, lakes, and the ocean. He’s already practicing being a big brother with all his cousins and will be a loving companion for our future child.
Our home is filled with warmth, tradition, and moments that bring us joy. Sundays are special as we relax and watch football together. We can’t wait to include our child in this tradition—complete with snacks, cheering for our favourite teams, and making it a cozy family day.
Summers find us visiting Devon’s family in Alberta and taking annual trips to lake country with both sides of the family, filled with fun on the water—skiing, surfing, and wakeboarding. During the winter, we enjoy skiing in Whistler and escaping the cold with trips to Palm Springs. We also try to take an annual trip to a new destination, exploring different cultures and making memories.
OUR HOME & COMMUNITY:
We live in a 5-bedroom home with plenty of space for our child to play, learn, and explore. The kitchen is great for family meals, and each bedroom is a cozy retreat. Our large, flat yard is perfect for outdoor fun, whether it’s running around or relaxing together. Our neighbourhood is quiet and family-friendly with beautiful views, trails, parks, and a close-knit community that makes it a wonderful place to raise a family.
OPENNESS:
As adoptive parents, we believe in the value of openness in adoption. We are open to many options of openness, such as emailing, photos and visits, and believe it’s important for the child to have a sense of who you are, where they come from, and to build a connection with you over time.
Our goal is to ensure that the child grows up with a healthy understanding of both their birth and adoptive families, and we recognize how meaningful that is for them. We want them to know that their story includes both of us, and that they have a strong sense of belonging on all sides.
