Kailen & Nico
OUR PROMISE TO YOU:
Our promise to you is that we will love, cherish and care for your child from day one to the end of our lives. We will put them first. We will create a warm and loving environment where they can flourish and grow into their full unique personhood and potential. We commit ourselves to making sure your child feels loved, seen and appreciated.
We promise to honour their unique heritage and culture, and ensure that they know who they are and where they have come from. We promise to honour the arrangement that we make with you and respect both your privacy and our agreed upon level of openness. We promise to always speak honourably and kindly to your child about their birth family and origin story. Overall your child will be surrounded by unconditional love and support no matter what life brings.
ABOUT US:
We are a married couple working as a High School Teacher and Nurse in Vancouver B.C.. Nico is a high school teacher who works at a local Catholic High School, specializing in working with children with higher learning needs. Kailen is a Registered Nurse who works in Emergency Medicine.
Our favourite pastime activity is spending time with friends and family and we frequently host BBQ’s and dinners at our house. We also both enjoy biking, walking and camping and love spending afternoons on long walks through the city. Kailen likes cooking and learning new recipes. Often trying to do as much from scratch as is reasonably possible. Nico also likes to cook! And has a secret talent for finding cool unique coffee shops when we travel, or always knowing where the best coffee shop is when we're out.
We both enjoy videogames from time to time and we like watching documentaries, and Kailen likes reading, esspeically fantasy books. In the winter our favourite pastime is skiing, and when we're in Alberta, ice skating.
For us, adoption is a way for us to share the love of family as we can not conceive children in the traditional way. Both of us have had great families and we cherish our parents and siblings and adoption is a way for us to carry on our strong family ties and relationships and let our love grow.

ABOUT OUR FAMILY:
We are both from large loving families and can not wait to start a new chapter through adoption. We are proud Vancouver residents of Italian heritage with loved ones located around Canada, and around the world.
Our child will be the first, highly anticipated, grandchild for both of our parents. Within our social network of close friends we are lucky enough to have many honorary nieces and nephews who are also very excited to meet our new addition. The goals that we have for our children is to foster a space where they can grow and thrive and discover who they are. We want to let our children be their true selves, while being curious and kind toward the world around them. We hope that our children feel fulfilled in their lives and feel important and meaningful to the community around them. We hope that they create beautiful memories through their childhoods that can grow into hearty foundations for their adult lives as we had in our childhoods.
Because Nico is a teacher we tend to take summers off. We hope to have summers filled with camping, and road trips, hiking and BBQ’s, or at the family cabin on the Sunshine Coast. We love ‘glamping’ which is our way of saying ‘comfortable car camping’. Finding a beach or lake to swim in during the summer is a must, and (fire restrictions pending) building a big camp fire to cook dinner around and spend the night in conversation.

OUR HOME & COMMUNITY:
Our home is a three story house located in an urban neighbourhood in the city of Vancouver, subdivided into three units of which we live on the main floor with a backyard. The house has been in our family for generations and is located across the street from a park and playground in a diverse and rich community. We are also only a few blocks away from shops and cafes which creates a rich social and cultural vibe in our neighbourhood which we appreciate and embrace.

OPENNESS:
We understand that openness is a lifelong agreement which might ebb and flow overtime depending on the lives of everyone involved. We understand that there might be times when you need more contact, or more space and we want to honour and respect that. It is important to us that your child feels supported and loved by all people in their life. As adoptive parents we understand that our role is to keep the relationship between our child and their birth family healthy and available so that when our child is an adult they can take the reins and navigate the relationship in a way that is authentic to them.
