Kate & Steve

OUR PROMISE TO YOU:

Our promise to you is that we will provide a loving, stable, and supportive home where this child will thrive. We are committed to ensuring that the child grows up knowing their story and the immense love that led to this decision. We will ensure that your child’s heritage and identity are celebrated. If desired, we will maintain an open relationship with you and embrace you as part of the family. Our commitment to them is lifelong—we will be there through every milestone, offering guidance, encouragement, and support. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to raise this child, and we promise to cherish and care for them with all of our hearts.

ABOUT US:

We’ve been together for 9 years and were married in 2021. Steve is originally from Toronto and Kate was raised in Alberta and we’ve built a really solid foundation in BC.

We both work from home which allows us a lot of flexibility. Steve runs a digital marketing company. Kate is a filmmaker and is self-employed which means that she can set her own hours and to take large chunks of time off whenever she wants.

We have many hopes and dreams for our children but mainly, we just want them to be healthy and happy. We encourage sports and team building activities, art & music classes, and speaking multiple languages. Most importantly, we want our children to follow their dreams, live with integrity, and to discover who they truely are.

For us, adoption is about creating a lifelong bond built on trust and unconditional love. It’s a path to parenthood that comes with deep understanding and reverence for the birth parents' courage, sacrifice, and selflessness. We are fully committed to honoring and cherishing the child we are blessed to welcome into our lives. Adoption also means providing a child with a safe, loving, and supportive home where they can grow and thrive, knowing that they are deeply loved for exactly who they are. We are excited to build our family through adoption, and we will always prioritize the child’s well-being, their sense of belonging, and their understanding of their unique and beautiful story.

ABOUT OUR FAMILY:

Steve is a laid-back personality who always puts his family first. Kate is a very loving and is the organized planner of the family. Our son, Van, (3 years old) is goofy and outgoing, and loves to play and have fun wherever he goes. We have two very cute dogs named Bruce and Greg. Together, there’s a lot of music, dancing, and laughter in the house. We love surfing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, paddleboarding (typical “West Coaster” stuff), eating good food, the Farmer’s Market, road trips, and cuddling on a rainy day. Tofino is a special place for us and we try to visit several times a year. We’ve been fortunate to be able to travel as a family through Kate’s work as a filmmaker - whether it’s a film screening at the Honolulu Museum of Art, or Cannes in the south of France.

Steve’s father is a Serbian immigrant and his mother is English/Polish. Kate’s father is a German immigrant and her mother is Ukranian/Welsh. We very much celebrate our Eastern European culture including Ukrainian Christmas every year with homemade Ukranian food.

Family is everything to us. Steve’s parents live in Toronto and Kate’s side of the family lives in Alberta. In the winter months, Kate’s parents & aunts and uncle live in Arizona, so we visit Arizona at least once a year. We are very close with our parents, siblings, and cousins.

We own a rental property in downtown Vancouver that we plan on passing down to our children one day. We have a cabin in the Rocky Mountains were we make memories.

OUR HOME & COMMUNITY:

Our home is a cozy, welcoming space with lots of room to grow and play in. We are located in a new townhouse community with a lot of young families where the children play freely within the complex - they play street hockey, hide-and-seek, soccer, skateboard, and ride bikes. Our neighbourhood is culturally diverse and there’s always a friend to play with and we’ve become close with all of our neighbours. We have a forest and a creek in our backyard where we watched the salmon spawn this fall. We are also close to the amenities of the city.

OPENNESS:

Adoption is not new to both our families. Steve’s uncle is an adopted war orphan and Kate’s cousin was adopted. We believe in openness and trust, and will celebrate our child’s adoption story from an early age. Our hope is to have an open adoption to the level you feel comfortable with. We would be happy to discuss a regular visiting schedule, or simply just share photos and letters - whatever your most comfortable with.
