Mike & Katie

OUR PROMISE TO YOU:

We promise to create a home filled with unconditional love, warmth, stability, and support. We are not just promising to love a child, we are promising to honor the birth family, to protect that bond, and to always make sure the child knows that they were chosen, wanted, and loved from the very beginning.

We will create space where they feel safe, supported, and free to explore their own interests. Whether it’s art, music, sports, or something entirely unexpected, we will encourage them every step of the way, without pressuring them.

ABOUT US:

Mike works as a Primary Care Paramedic with BC Ambulance and is constantly updating his skillset, most recently taking a midwife course. Katie has a Bachelor of Applied Sciences and works in Tech as a Designer for one of Canadas larger online retail companies.

We met in 2016 and quickly realized we had a great connection full of adventure. In 2017 we bought our first apartment and renovated it together. We found we worked really well together as a team too. In 2019 we decided to get married and to start trying for a family.

We are both very active, and enjoy running, cycling, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, tennis, baseball, working out and more. Katie is a voracious reader and is looking forward to reading to our/your future child. Mike not only loves playing sports but he loves watching them too.

In our free time, we love to be outside, garden, cook, and spend time with friends. We are also both very creative. Katie paints, and does ceramics, and has made almost every plate, bowl and mug we use in our house. Mike is a very talented woodworker and has made most of our furniture and it came in handy when building our house too!

We love to travel. Our most recent international trips were to Japan and Mexico. We also enjoy local getaways for camping, swimming, hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing.

ABOUT OUR FAMILY:

We’re both very close with our families and see them often. Mike is the third of four brothers. The oldest brother has 2 kids who are of mixed heritage with their mom being from Malaysia. His second oldest brother also has two kids. They’re all really excited about having a new cousin in the family. Mike’s youngest brother and his wife, who is of East Indian heritage, hope to have kids in the next few years.

Katie has one younger brother, and this would be the first grandchild on her side. Both of our immediate families live in Greater Vancouver, so we are over often to visit. Katie is also very close with her cousins, and their kids are all nieces and nephews in every way that matters. They live around BC, so we often visit Vancouver Island and the interior.

We have a 9 year old lab mix named Murphy who is the most gentle and sweet old dog you will ever meet, but still always up for a hike or a run. And a 15 year old cat named Finnegan who is glued to whoever has an available lap.

OUR HOME & COMMUNITY:

In 2020, when Katie’s work went remote, we left the city to build a home on a small acreage in the Gulf Islands. We have ducks, chickens a greenhouse and try to grow all our own fruit and veggies. While our home has a remote feel in nature, we are only a 5 minute drive to town, the elementary and high school, as well as the hospital and grocery stores!

Since our home is in a bit of a tourist destination we get a lot of visitors, so we are always exploring our Island, spending time with loved ones, and discovering all the gems it has to share.

OPENNESS:

In terms of openness we would follow your lead on whatever you feel comfortable with. Whether that means sharing photos and updates, writing letters or emails, or visits, we want to find a level of openness that feels right to you.
