Birthmother's Day!

The Birthmother's Day Picnic has become a treasured tradition at Sunrise! Birthmother’s Day was first celebrated in Seattle in 1990. It is now widely observed throughout North America on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. This is a unique event. Many of the birthmothers who have placed with Sunrise families come together with those families. Our families who have adopted internationally, or who do not know their children’s birthmothers, enjoy the opportunity to honour their birthmother. Waiting families are able to meet other waiting families and those who have already adopted.

Inclusion of all gender and sexual diversity is an important value of Sunrise Family Services Society.

We are continuously striving to create an environment of compassionate belonging where all of the LGBTQIA+ community are supported, valued and respected.

We respectfully acknowledge that the office of Sunrise Family Services Society is located on the traditional and unceded territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
